Adam Voges calls for Ashton Turner's appointment as Australia's T20I captain

With Aaron Finch's retirement from international T20 cricket, Australia find themselves in search of a new skipper for the shortest format of the game. Former Australian cricketer, Adam Voges, has thrown his hat in the ring by endorsing Ashton Turner as the successor to Finch.

Voges, who is Perth Scorchers' coach, has been vocal about Turner's leadership acumen and level-headedness, making a compelling argument for his appointment as the next T20 skipper.

"I’m a big fan of Ashton as captain of the Scorchers and working really closely with him over the last couple of seasons," Voges said.

"His maturity and his leadership and the way he goes about it is a huge part of why we’ve been successful. I did read that Aaron Finch has retired today and hopefully Ashton’s name has been bandied about as a potential replacement to lead Australia because I think he’d do a wonderful job," he added.

The final decision on who will succeed Finch as T20 captain lies with the cricket board, and will be based on a multitude of factors, including player form, leadership qualities, and experience.

Meanwhile, Australia's former captain Finch picked Travis Head, apart from Turner, as his successor. However, the latter, who is benched for the first Test against India, isn't a part of the T20I team.
