Former West Indies captain, Brian Lara has backed Adam Zampa over the run-out controversy, stating that there is nothing wrong with it.

Zampa was at the centre of controversy when he tried to run-out Tom Rogers at the bowler's end during the Big Bash League game at the MCG.

After the event, the leg spinner was criticised for his actions, but has found support in Lara who says he never left the crease until the ball was released from the bowler's hand.

Lara speaks

"As a batter, I don't think I've ever stepped out of my crease unless I see the ball travelling out of bowler's hand. And you only need to see a yard of the delivery coming out and then you can leave your crease," Lara said speaking to Fox Sports.

He further added that if crossing the crease is illegal for the bowlers, then the same rule should be applied for the batters as well.

"You're telling the bowler that if he goes across the line by a centimetre, that's illegal. But you're allowed to go down the track three or four yards and take that advantage?," Lara added.

The West Indian great has also encouraged Zampa to run batters out like this, adding that he does not see any advantage in trying to run before the ball is released.
