Australia head coach Andrew McDonald opened up on the side's decision to not play any tour game before the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, advocating that Pat Cummins' men will go through mental and physical relaxation.

Reiterating how Australia's "no tour game" policy worked on their visit to Pakistan, McDonald expressed that the team need not more than a week in India to prepare for the nearing Test series.

The Big Bash League 2022-23 final has been scheduled just days before the India series. Barring the participants of the bout, the Aussie players will be a part of the three-day camp in Sydney before jetting off to India.

Here's what McDonald said to Sydney Morning Herald:

"No tour game is something we’ve done in the last few series before embarking on overseas tours. We feel as though we don’t need that match practice as such. We’re going to India about a week out from the first game. We didn’t want to press for too much longer in terms of the preparation.

"We feel as though seven days is ample time to get ready and to make sure we maintain freshness throughout the whole four Test match series. We had some success doing that, going to Pakistan. We had a shortened period on the ground there."

Australia and India will battle in a four-match Test series, starting on February 9 at Nagpur. The ODI leg of the tour begins on March 17.
