Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, after winning a crucial toss in the third T20I against Australia, chose to chase, given her side's expertise. However, the match did not go as precisely as India planned and ended by losing the encounter by 21 runs and handing Australia a 2-1 lead.

Ellyse Perry and Grace Harris propelled the visitors' score to a massive 172 after stuttering at 89 for 4 at one point. Chasing 173, the host did make good progress thanks to a 41-ball 51 by Shafali Verma, Kaur ably aided her younger partner with a 27-ball 37 but failed to provide the fireworks needed to push India across the finish line.

Speaking about the chase, Kaur rued a lack of boundaries and pin-pointed dot balls as significant factors for their loss. India played as many as 55 dot balls last evening.

"After getting them on 170-odd runs, we really thought we can chase this total. We played too many dot balls in the middle. After getting boundary, our plan was to rotate strike but didn't happen.

Shafali or myself - we had in mind one of us needs to play till end. But we have a long batting lineup now and can play freely. So we can go for our shots. Don't really need one of us to play till the end,"

The fourth T20I will be played on December 17 with India hoping to draw level and take the series into the decider on December 20.
