T20 World Cup 2022: 'We want to win first, then wait for NRR', says Mitchell Starc

The ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 has been made interesting due to several matches being abandoned due to rain. Group 1 of the Super 12 Stage sees teams like England and Australia face near elimination from the tournament, having had one abandoned match each.

New Zealand occupies the top spot, courtesy of a superior net run rate, something hosts Australia doesn't enjoy.

In their match against Ireland last evening, a win by a margin of 74 runs would have brought Australia's NRR into a plus. Paceman Mitchell Starc believes that a win is what Australia are aiming for, and will be hopeful on other results for the net run rate.

As quoted by cricket.com, Starc maintained that their main focus remains on winning.

"For us it's just trying to win these games. First and foremost, because if you don't win, it (NRR) doesn't matter, does it? Yeah, a tick of the box today. We brought that run rate back a bit, and we'll see how we place in 24 hours."

The defending T20 World Cup champions take on Afghanistan in their final Super 12 stage game on November 4 in Adelaide.

Today's match between England and New Zealand will most likely determine Australia's fate in the competition
