India Women's off-spinning all-rounder Deepti Sharma has triggered a debate over the "spirit of the game" after she ran out England's Charlotte Dean to hand India a win in the 3rd ODI against England Women at Lord's. The batter had left her crease at the non-striker's end before the ball was released and Sharma dislodged the bails.

Since the incident happened the cricketing world has been divided into sections with different opinions coming from different sections.

While the English cricket fraternity is criticising Deepti for dismissing Dean in a controversial way, a debate which sparked after the dismissal. The Indian cricket fraternity stood behind her and heaped praise on Deepti Sharma for showing great presence of mind.

Out of controversy, many Indian cricket fans have targeted English fans and reminded them of the 2019 Men's ODI World Cup final in which England got lucky with an overthrow that gave them six runs. In that incident, the deflection came off the bat of Stokes which ultimately led to England winning their first-ever ODI World Cup.

Many cricket experts argued that the umpire had made the wrong decision and the hosts should not have got six runs. Ironically, that incident had also taken place at Lord's, the venue for the latest cricketing run-out controversy.
