Former South African all-rounder and Durban Supergiants coach, Lance Klusener reacted to national T20 skipper Temba Bavuma's snub during the SA20 auction.

Reacting to Bavuma going unsold, Klusener admitted that the competition for places in a franchise is brutal.

The former hard-hitting batsman further added that being a renowned international player does not guarantee a place in T20 leagues, as Bavuma found out this week.

Speaking to IOL, Lance Klusener said:

"It's brutal out there, there's a lot of competition for places. It just shows you that if you're a good player for South Africa, it doesn't mean you have the same recognition around the world. Maybe that will just drive people that didn't get bought a little bit harder for next year"

Temba Bavuma had registered himself at a base price of R 850,000 for SA20 auction

But, not one franchise showed any interest in acquiring the services of South Africa's T20I skipper, who will shortly lead the Proteas contingent in the World Cup in Australia.

On pure cricketing logic though, Bavuma's snub does not come as a surprise.

While he has proven his mettle in Tests and ODIs, Bavuma has never been able to adapt to the demands of T20 cricket.

The 32-year-old has thus far featured in 100 T20s, in which he has scored 2289 runs @ 30.52/124.67 with 9 50+ scores, including 1 100.

His returns for South Africa have been even dire. In 24 T20I innings, Bavuma has managed just 562 runs @ 26.76/120.60 with just 1 50+ score.

He will be next seen in action when India hosts the Proteas for 3 T20Is, starting later this month.
