Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are set to take field for India in their upcoming home series against Australia. The series, along with the subsequent home assignment against South Africa, serves as a dress rehearsal for the ‘Men in Blue’ ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia next month.

Former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan, who is currently in India for the Legends League season, recently praised the two senior batters and emphasised their importance in the Indian batting line-up.

“Half of India is finished once Kohli, Sharma are out” Asghar Afghan

He implied that senior cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the backbone of India’s batting.

Afghan claimed if they both are dismissed early in an innings, Team India’s total would be lesser by 100-120 runs in an ODI and by 60-70 runs in a T20I. He added that even while playing against India during his leadership days, the entire Afghanistan team made their bowling plans around Kohli and Sharma. He said:

Asghar Afghan opens up

“Whenever we played against India, our plan used to be around Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. We used to say ‘get them out, half of Indian team is finished’. The whole world plans against these two big players like this only. They can win matches single-handedly.”

“We used to believe that if we get both of them out early then about 100-120 runs would be less from India’s total in an ODI and about 60-70 runs in a T20I.”

“India should support their players and the team. It’s not like they are a bad team just because they didn’t do well (in Asia Cup). These are part and parcel of the game. The World Cup is coming, and India have a very good chance.”
