Tim David is set to make his Australian debut soon, as the dynamic batter was called up to their squad for a three-T20I September tour of India. Moreover, the series against India itself serves as a testing ground for both sides ahead of the T20 World Cup next month, for which the youngster has found a spot in their strong 15-player group.

Tim David says Australian selection looked unlikely

David made his international debut for Singapore in 2019 and played the last of his 14 T20Is for the country against Hong Kong in 2020.

The youngster also landed a hefty IPL contract for Mumbai Indians this year, before playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as a replacement in 2021.

While speaking on cricket.com.au, the 26-year-old stated there was a time in his life when he felt an Australian call-up was unlikely for him.

“I think for a long time (representing Australia) looked unlikely, but I don't think that I wouldn't have ever imagined it. It's something that you still always want to strive for, and I guess it feels really rewarding for myself and I guess for my family and my support network to be able to get that call and share it with them."

Despite a lengthy white-ball journey, once which launched in 2018 across the grassy banks of the WACA, the youngster has maintained a staggering T20 strike-rate of 164.17.

David will likely make his starting XI debut this month itself, when the Aaron Finch-led side would be taking on India in three T20Is between September 20 and 25.
