[Watch] Shivam Dube Left Clueless As Vandersay Unleashes Spin Tsunami In IND vs SL 2nd ODI

In what can only be described as a golden opportunity squandered, Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube failed to leave his mark in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.

The southpaw fell prey to a sharply spun web by Jeffrey Vandersay. Promoted to bat at No. 4 after a promising start was derailed by the quick dismissals of openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, Shivam Dube’s moment to shine turned into a repeat episode of his current struggles.

The stage was set for Dube to prove his mettle in a challenging middle-order position, but he was left clueless against Vandersay's exceptional leg spin.

Failing to decipher the spin from the hand, Dube was rooted to his crease as the ball spun sharply, striking him plumb in front of the wickets, and sending him back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.

This latest dismissal is a continuation of Dube’s disappointing form, particularly highlighted by his underwhelming performances in the recent T20 World Cup 2024.

Despite a glimmer of hope in his cameo in the 1st ODI, where he failed to carry India over the line with the scores tied, Dube's inability to finish games has been a sticking point.

With each passing match, the window for cementing his place in the squad is narrowing, and the pressure is mounting for him to turn his fortunes.

Meanwhile, as India chased a moderate target of 241, they were initially on the front foot courtesy of a robust 97-run opening stand.

However, the momentum quickly shifted with Vandersay dismissing both openers and then claiming the wickets of Dube and Virat Kohli, who could only muster 14 runs.

At the 20-over mark, India find themselves at 168/6, with Washington Sundar and Axar Patel left to steady the ship and chase the remaining 73 runs in 20 overs.
