India's premier spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, provided a much-needed wicket, breaking Sri Lanka's momentum during the second ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 4, 2024. 

The left-arm wrist spinner, who had endured a relatively quiet spell, produced a breakthrough delivery to dismantle the burgeoning partnership between captain Charith Asalanka and the dangerous Dunith Wellalage.

Watch- Dunith Wellalage Departs With Kuldeep Yadav's Magical Delivery

Wellalage, who had injected much-needed impetus into the Sri Lankan innings with a quick-fire 39-run innings, fell victim to Kuldeep Yadav's guile. 

A full-length delivery on the leg stump, spinning away sharply, lured the batter into a lofted reverse sweep. However, Wellalage mistimed his shot, which went straight to Shivam Dube at short third man. 

The dismissal of Wellalage proved to be a crucial turning point in the match. The partnership between the duo had threatened to accelerate Sri Lanka's innings and put immense pressure on the Indian bowlers. 

Sri Lanka has managed to post a respectable total of 240/9 in their allotted 50 overs, despite a shaky start. The hosts found themselves in trouble at 136/6 but a late surge from the lower order propelled them to a competitive score on a slow pitch.

The Indian bowlers, who looked to be in control for the majority of the innings, failed to capitalise on the early breakthroughs. 

The likes of Wellalage and Kamindu Mendis played crucial cameos to take the game away from India in the latter stages.
