Legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli recorded a rare failure with the bat, as he was dismissed cheaply in the ongoing second ODI against Sri Lanka at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. He could score only 14 runs before wily Sri Lankan spinner Jeffrey Vandersay dismissed him.

The incident occurred during the 20th over of the Indian innings when they had lost Shubman Gill and Shivam Dube in quick succession. 

Vandersay weaved his magic yet again in the game, outfoxing Kohli with a beautiful delivery. It was a well-disguised ball from the leg spinner, as it turned sharply into Kohli to leave him stunned. 

Before the Indian batting great play it, the ball struck him on his pads. As soon as the Lankan players appealed, the umpire declared Kohli out. 

Notably, Kohli survived a close LBW call earlier, thanks to the Decision Review System. After his departure, India further lost crucial wickets of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, who registered their second consecutive poor outing in the series. 

Interestingly, Vandersay has scalped all the six wickets for Sri Lanka so far. His exceptional bowling spell has reduced India to 152 for six at the halfway mark. As of writing, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are unbeaten in the middle.
