In the ongoing match between India and Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 4, 2024, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a strong start during their chase of a target of 240/9. 

Rohit Sharma showcased his exceptional power-hitting skills and played a particularly impressive shot in the seventh over.

Rohit struck a remarkable 83-meter six off a short delivery from Asitha Fernando. The bowler, delivered at 133 kmph, made an error by banging it short on the stumps. 

He capitalised on by sitting back and pulling it high into the night sky, and sending it sailing over the backward square leg fence for a maximum. 

This shot demonstrated Rohit's fine form and set the tone for India's innings. Later on, Rohit Sharma completed a blistering half-century. 

Earlier in the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite a weak start, they managed to post a respectable total of 240/9 in their allotted 50 overs. 

The Indian bowlers, who seemed to be in control for the majority of the innings, failed to capitalise on their early breakthroughs. 

Crucial cameos from Dunith Wellalage and Kamindu Mendis took the game away from India in the latter stages, and helped Sri Lanka to a more challenging total. At the time of writing India were 130/4 in 21 overs.
