England Cricket Board’s (EC) selection panel has unveiled a formidable 14-member squad set to take on Sri Lanka in the upcoming three-match Test series.

The stage is set for an exhilarating ENG vs SL Test series, beginning on August 21, 2024, at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Cox earns maiden Test call as injured Crawley gets sidelined from SL Tests

The ENG squad for SL Tests sees a reshuffling as opening batsman Zak Crawley has been left out due to a fractured right little finger, which he incurred during the win in the third Test against the West Indies.

Stepping into the breach in his absence will be Dan Lawrence, who is likely to open alongside Ben Duckett. Adding to the squad's reshuffle, seam bowler Dillion Pennington will be sitting out the series after a hamstring snag during his stint in The Hundred 2024.

Among the notable inclusions is Jordan Cox, the 23-year-old Essex dynamo, who has earned his first Test call-up. Cox, a right-handed middle-order batter, has been turning heads with his sterling performance this season after his transfer from Kent.

Having previously toured with the England white-ball squad in Pakistan, Cox is no stranger to the international scene but is now set to make his mark in the red-ball arena.

The England squad for Sri Lanka Tests also welcomes back Nottinghamshire's speedster Olly Stone, whose last Test appearance dates back to June 2021.

With three caps under his belt, Stone will be itching to increase that tally, bringing his pace and energy back into the fold.

The series will proceed with its second Test at the Lord’s in London from August 29 to September 2, followed by the final Test at Kia Oval, London, from September 6 to 10.

Under the leadership of captain Ben Stokes, the squad has retained most of its players and looks like a formidable side. The hosts will aim to ride on their rich form and clinch another series.
