Indian cricket witnessed another landmark moment as skipper Rohit Sharma surpassed the legendary Rahul Dravid in the list of most ODI runs for India during the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.

In an exceptional batting display, Rohit Sharma required just two runs to overtake Dravid's tally, a feat he achieved with characteristic flair.

With the series set on the edge after a nail-biting tie in the opening ODI, Rohit stepped onto the field with a glint of determination. The stage was set, and it didn't take long for the 'Hitman' to unleash his brilliance.

Facing Asitha Fernando in the third over, Rohit Sharma whip-pulled a delivery to deep square leg for a single, thus scripting a new chapter in India's cricket history.

With this single, he surpassed Dravid’s monumental run total of 10,768 runs, achieving the milestone in his 264th ODI match—76 games fewer than Dravid.

Rohit's latest ODI record not only places him above Dravid but also brings him closer to the upper levels of Indian run scorers, where legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly reside.

Tendulkar’s colossal record of 18,426 runs remains a distant summit, with former captains Kohli (13,872 runs) and Sourav Ganguly (11,221 runs) also ahead in the pecking order.
