Play on day 3 of the 2nd Test between Pakistan and South Africa is underway at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan started the first session positively, as the duo stitched a 98-run stand for the 4th wicket.
Notably, Pakistan were in serious trouble as they lost three wickets for 20 runs while trailing by 595 runs. Babar and Rizwan's knock came at a crucial time as they saved the visitors from embarrassment. Meanwhile, Babar too brought up his fifty, but soon returned to the pavilion.
Babar Azam Shines With A Fifty
Right after smashing his first fifty of 2025, Babar fell prey to South Africa's 18-year-old Test debutant Kwena Maphaka. On the 5th ball of the 35th over, Maphaka bowled a loose delivery pitched down the leg side that Babar looked to flick, but found the faintest of edge, and the keeper made no mistake with the gloves.
The stadium erupted into joy as Maphaka too was elated to get Babar Azam as his first Test wicket. Watch the wicket here.
Kwena Maphaka Picks Babar Azam In All-Formats
It is worth noting that Babar Azam was Maphaka's first wicket in ODIs as well. The 18-year-old left-arm seamer made his ODI debut in the recently concluded series against Pakistan, where he shone with the ball. He also got Babar's wicket in T20Is.
Further, it is worth noting that with this wicket, Maphaka has scripted another record as he has joined an elite list of bowlers to have got Babar Azam out in all three formats. At the time of writing this article, Pakistan are 155/5.
