Gambhir Opens Up About Bumrah-Konstas Controversy
The incident unfolded late on Day 1, when Sam Konstas, exchanged words with Bumrah, visibly agitating the Indian pacer. The heated altercation came at a time when Usman Khawaja, was batting at the other end.
Moments later, Khawaja edged a delivery from Bumrah to KL Rahul at second slip.To this Gautam Gambhir suggested that this verbal spat played a 'Crucial' role in this dismissal as it motivated the fast bowler to push his intensity.
After India's defeat at the Sydney Test, Gambhir while speaking to the media in the post-match press conference spoke about the the incident and stated that -
"Tough sport played by tough men. He had no right to be talking to Jasprit Bumrah when Usman Khawaja was taking time. He had no right and no business to be involved with Jasprit Bumrah. That was the job of the umpire and the guy who is batting at the other end," Gambhir said in the post-match press conference.
The verbal altercation wasn’t Konstas’ first run-in with Indian players during the series. The debutant had a notable exchange with Virat Kohli at the MCG, where both players were involved in a bumping incident on the field. After the incident Virat Kohli received 20% fine of his match fee and a demerit point for his role in the confrontation.
