Babar Azam has been at the centre of criticism in 2024. He was bashed earlier for his poor captaincy in T20 World Cup, but even after leaving the leadership duties, he is under lot of pump because of his poor form with the bat.
The dip in form continued against South Africa in the first T20I too as he was removed for a 4-ball duck by youngster Kwena Maphaka. The youngster recently bagged an IPL contract from Rajasthan Royals and played for Mumbai Indians in the 2024 season. He was the find of the last held edition of the U19 World Cup and now with the wicket of Babar Azam it seems that he is moving in right direction in T20Is as well.
Babar Azam Fails To Execute Upper Cut
Maphaka got the wicket of Babar Azam on the third ball of his second over. He was bowling with good pace and banged a short delivery, outside off. Babar sensed an opportunity to upper cut the ball and he did that. However, he could not get the desired distance and ended up hitting it to the third man fielder Andile Simelane. He made no mistake and Babar Azam had to walk back for a duck in his comeback game.
Babar Azam was among the players to be rested for the Zimbabwe series and it was expected that he would make an impact against South Africa. Now, things have not gone his way and it would be interesting to see how Pakistan go about their business in the run-chase of 184 after losing an early wicket.
