Pakistan are currently up against South Africa in the second Test of the two-match series at Newlands, Cape Town. Pakistan are on the backfoot after they lost three early wickets in reply to Proteas' massive score of 615 in the first innings and have faced lot of criticism in recent times for their indifferent performances.
Along with the on-field performances, Pakistan players are often trolled for their poor English. Some of their star players have been mocked for it over the years by fans, but it is hard to find an on-air commentator mocking someone for lack of fluent English. A South African commentator though did not hold back during Day 2 of the Pakistan-South Africa encounter in Cape Town.
Kamran Ghulam's Wait Call Triggers English Debate
The incident happened when Babar Azam and Kamran Ghulam were fighting it out in the middle. Marco Jansen was the bowler and as he bowled a length delivery from 'round the wicket to Ghulam, the Pakistan batter defended it solidly to mid on. He immediately made a big 'Wait' call to his partner which triggered a story from the commentator.
He stated that he played with one Pakistan player Khurram Manzoor in Abu Dhabi and he also used to make such outrageous calls in English while batting. However, he added that all these kind of players then struggle when they have to talk in English during interviews and burst out in laughter.
It would be interesting to see how Pakistan players react to such comments, but it surely would not go down well with a proud nation.
