Mitch Owen pulled off one of the best catches of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 season during the match between Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart. His jaw-dropping effort sent Adelaide Strikers’ batter Ollie Pope back to the pavilion, leaving fans and commentators stunned.

Adelaide Strikers won the toss and chose to bat first. Ollie Pope, who was looking to play a solid knock, managed to score 33 runs off 27 balls, including 3 boundaries. However, his innings came to an end in the 16th over when Mitch Owen pulled off a screamer.

During Riley Meredith’s over, Pope tried to cut a slower delivery outside off. The ball came off the toe of his bat, flying high toward deep cover point. Owen, fielding at sweeper cover, sprinted to his left and launched himself into a full-length dive. The ball seemed destined to fall safely, but Owen grabbed it mid-air and held on tight.

It wasn’t just a catch — it was a match-turning moment and one of the best catches fans have seen this season.

Strikers Put A Great Show Vs Hurricanes

Earlier in the match, Hobart Hurricanes' bowlers struck at regular intervals. Billy Stanlake got things rolling by removing D'Arcy Short for just 1 run. After that, Zahir Khan Salamkheil chipped in with two key wickets — Jake Weatherald (13 runs) and Chris Lynn (49 runs) — breaking Adelaide’s momentum.

At the time of writing, Adelaide Strikers have scored 183/5 in 19.3 overs. With only a few balls left, they’ll be looking to push past the 190-run mark to set a challenging target for the Hurricanes.
