India continued their imperious march in the T20 World Cup 2024, decimating England by 68 runs in the second semifinal at Providence Stadium, Guyana, on Thursday.

This commanding victory has catapulted them into the tournament final for the first time in a decade.

Here’s the timeline of how IND vs ENG panned out in Guyana-

IND vs ENG Highlights: Kohli's Struggles Continue Amid Rohit's Resilient Start

After being invited to bat first, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli faced the new ball. Kohli's rough patch persisted, as he smashed a six and was clean bowled immediately after by Reece Topley for nine in the third over.

Rohit, however, was in fine fettle, stroking the ball elegantly to give India a solid foundation. But the joy was short-lived as Rishabh Pant, trying to break the shackles, fell to Sam Curran for just four in the sixth over as India ended the powerplay at 46/2, with Rohit holding the fort.

IND vs ENG Highlights: Suryakumar-Rohit Provide Stability

Rohit found an able partner in Suryakumar Yadav as they set about rebuilding the innings. Just as they were gaining momentum, the heavens opened up after eight overs, halting play with India at 65/2.

The rain delay lasted over an hour, and when play resumed, the pitch had become a different beast. The ball began to grip and turn, making life difficult for the batters.

Rohit and Suryakumar had to recalibrate their approach, playing cautiously initially. But once they adjusted to the conditions, they began to accelerate, finding the boundaries with increasing frequency.

Rohit reached his fifty off 36 balls but was deceived by Adil Rashid’s googly, departing for a well-made 57. Suryakumar, too, was dismissed for 47 in the 16th over, caught in the deep off Jofra Archer.

IND vs ENG Highlights: Pandya Power Hits and Jadeja Provides Finishing Flourish

With both set batters back in the pavilion, England sensed an opportunity to claw back. Hardik Pandya, however, had other ideas, smashing Chris Jordan for two sixes in the 18th over. His brisk innings of 23 from 13 balls ended when he was caught, attempting another big hit.

Shivam Dube followed Pandya back to the pavillion on the very next ball, falling for a golden duck. India seemed to be losing their way until Ravindra Jadeja played a handy cameo, scoring 17* off nine balls, with Axar Patel contributing 10 off 9. These late runs helped India reach a competitive total of 171/7 at the end of their 20 overs.

IND vs ENG Highlights: Buttler Provides Fiery Start but Top-Order Departs Quickly

England started their chase at a blistering pace, with Jos Buttler launching an assault on the Indian pacers, racing to 26/0 in the first three overs.

The introduction of Axar Patel in the fourth over turned the tide, as he immediately made his mark by dismissing the England skipper. Buttler’s cameo of 23 off 15 balls ended abruptly, and the momentum shifted.

Jasprit Bumrah, switching ends, delivered a peach of a delivery to uproot Philip Salt’s leg stump for just 5.

IND vs ENG Highlights: Axar, Kuldeep Spin a Web To Trigger English Collapse

Axar Patel, continuing his magic, bowled Jonny Bairstow for a duck in his next over and then had Moeen Ali stumped, reducing England to 46/4.

Kuldeep Yadav joined the fray, weaving a web of spin that England’s middle order couldn’t escape. He accounted for Sam Curran, Harry Brook, and Chris Jordan, finishing with figures 3/19.

Liam Livingstone appeared comfortable but was run out for 11. Archer’s late fireworks were merely a footnote as he hit a few big shots, but it was too little, too late as the defending champions skittled out for a paltry 103.

Now, Rohit Sharma’s men, playing like a well-oiled machine, are set to lock horns with South Africa in the final on Saturday, June 29, in Barbados.

Team India will be keen to roll back the years and lift their second T20 World Cup trophy, having last won it in 2007.
