India defeated Sri Lanka in an exciting Super Over contest in the 3rd T20I on Tuesday. The victory meant a 3-0 clean sweep for the Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav duo.

How the 3rd T20I panned out

India came into the final game with the series already in the bag as they made numerous changes in the lineup. On a sticky surface, Indian team were restricted to 137/9, a target which seamed easy at first go.

Sri Lanka started on a positive note, but once the first wicket fell, the Lankan Lions pressed the panic button. However, at one stage, it looked like Sri Lanka will get the consolation win when they needed 9 off 12 balls. But captain Suryakumar sprung a surprise and gave the ball to Rinku Singh, who gave away 3 runs and picked up 2 vital wickets.

The game was not done yet as Surya introduced himself in the last over and conceded just 5 runs and picked up 2 wickets to take the game to the Super Over. India played their best cricket towards the end and won the game in a nail-biter.

Surya wins his 5th POTS award

For his excellent batting, bowling and captaincy performance, Suryakumar Yadav was given the Player of the Series award. Interestingly, this was his 5th Player of the Series Award, and now he is only behind Virat Kohli, who bagged it 7 times in T20I cricket. The Indian T20I captain has plenty of time to break that as well.

He scored 92 runs in the series, including a fifty, and a couple of wickets under his name.
