On Friday, September 13, The BCCI took to Twitter to share glimpses of India's practice session in Chennai ahead of the crucial two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The Rohit Sharma-led side will play their first game at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on September 19.

In the latest events, senior members Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have arrived in Chennai. Further, the upcoming Test series will be Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as India's head coach in Test cricket. He has received a major boost as Morne Morkel has joined the side.

Gambhir's Efforts To Sign Morkel As India's Bowling Coach

It is worth noting that Gambhir, who was appointed as India's head coach in July, could not get his desired support staff early on. He brought in Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate with him from KKR, but could not get Morkel in time for the Sri Lanka series and had to settle with Sairaj Bahutule,  who went with the team as interim bowling coach.

Eventually, India suffered an embarrassing defeat against the Island Nation in ODIs as they were handed their first bilateral series defeat against Sri Lanka in 27 years. Nonetheless, BCCI announced the signing of Morne Morkel as India's bowling coach in August 2024.

Rohit Sharma Leads India's Training In Chennai

India will be playing their first Test game after a gap of over six months. Meanwhile, Virat, Rishabh Pant, and the likes of KL Rahul are a part of the upcoming series. However, Shreyas Iyer has failed to find a place in the team.

India Squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.

India are currently placed on top of the WTC standings, while Bangladesh have also made a strong case for themselves with a series win over Pakistan. The Tigers are currently placed fourth.
