In a big news coming up from Indian cricket, Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as Indian Senior Men's team's head coach. The news has been announced by Jay Shah on his official X handle and Gambhir is set to kick-start his coaching duties with India's tour of Sri Lanka starting from July 27.

Gautam Gambhir replaces Rahul Dravid who was India’s head coach in the victorious T20 World Cup campaign and would be looking to take forward the high standards set by his predecessor. 

Just like Dravid, Gambhir will be the head coach in all three formats and would be eyeing to lift the ICC Champions Trophy first-up, scheduled to be held in February next year. He has been appointed for three-and-a-half years till December 2027.

Gautam Gambhir's Success For KKR

Gautam Gambhir first came into limelight for the role of India’s head coach during the fag end of IPL 2024 and it further intensified when KKR went onto lift the title. Gambhir was the mentor of KKR and his role was considered crucial in KKR's revival during IPL 2024.

He has been a very successful captain in IPL as well and his his leadership and man-management skills have been highly rated which he would be hoping to bring to the table in his biggest coaching assignment so far.

Along with Rahul Dravid, the tenure of other support staff members - Paras Mhambrey (Bowling Coach), T. Dilip (Fielding Coach) and Vikram Rathour (Batting Coach) has also ended and the announcement of new support staff under Gautam Gambhir is expected soon.
