In a major news coming, Jonty Rhodes, easily the greatest fielder in the history of cricket, could become India's next fielding coach.

As reported by Revsportz, the 54-year-old, who currently takes a similar role for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is 'in the reckoning' for the high-profile job, which will be open once the T20 World Cup 2024 ends.

However, Rhodes is yet to receive any formal offer from the BCCI’s end this time around. He applied for the role back in 2019, but under Ravi Shastri, R Sridhar was re-appointed back then.

Currently, with Rahul Dravid at the helm, T Dilip takes the job of the fielding coach’s duty. As Dravid is set to leave the position after the World Cup, Dilip is likely to make the way.

And now, the BCCI core members have started discussing acquiring Rhodes, with Gautam Gambhir, who was the mentor at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) earlier and worked alongside Rhodes, and is thought to be Dravid’s successor, reuniting with Rhodes to work together.

Notably, it is unsure whether Dilip is ready to re-apply for the role, and is ready to work under the new head coach of Team India.

Whoever the next fielding coach is, his tenure will begin on July 1, 2024, and will till December 31, 2027.
