In a major development coming after plenty of speculations, Gautam Gambhir has already told the BCCI that he will become India's next head coach post the T20 World Cup 2024.
An IPL owner confirmed Cricbuzz that it's a 'done deal', and a formal announcement will take place very soon.
“A very high-profile owner of an IPL franchise, who is very close to the BCCI top brass, told Cricbuzz that Gambhir's appointment is a done deal and the announcement will come soon,” a Cricbuzz report read.
The report further added that Gambhir has already told his close ones that he would love to take the vacated position to succeed Rahul Dravid. In fact, Shah Rukh Khan, who loves Gambhir so much for his resounding success at KKR, knew Gambhir’s intentions as well.
Gambhir was the main man behind KKR’s dominant IPL 2024 triumph, which they achieved by thrashing Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final.
The Purple and Gold Brigade, who won two IPL titles under Gambhir’s leadership between 2012 and 2014, finished as the table toppers after the league stage, having bagged 20 points at a record-breaking NRR of 1.428.
It is important to note that Gambhir took five breaks to spend some time with his family during the two-month IPL stint. Hence, a challenging time could come for the 42-year-old if he decides to be on the prestigious position.
