The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make any discussions involving the future of Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The former cricketer is currently engaged with the ‘Men in Blue’ for the 2023 World Cup.

Dravid and the rest of the support staff were initially contracted to helm the Indian team management until the conclusion of the tournament.

Rahul Dravid’s coaching future uncertain

Rahul Dravid was appointed as Team India’s head coach in late 2021 by the BCCI, taking over the role from former all-rounder Ravi Shastri. Since Dravid’s appointment, the Indian cricket team has enjoyed unprecedented success under new captain Rohit Sharma across several home assignments.

However, the team coped crashing defeats in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia as well in this year’s WTC 2023 final in England. Following successive humiliations at major ICC events, Rohit Sharma and co. bounced back with an emphatic Asia Cup 2023 win in Sri Lanka, and a 10-match unbeaten streak in the subsequent 2023 World Cup tournament at home.

Owing to team’s recent success under Rahul Dravid, the BCCI will likely be offering contract extensions to the former cricketer along with the remaining members of the support staff, including batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip.

As per a report from Cricbuzz, the cricket board will soon be making an official announcement about Dravid’s future in the Indian team.

While a contract extension is very much on the cards, it remains to be seen if Dravid himself will be interested in continuing the role after the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup.

As of now, he and the rest of his Indian troops are bracing themselves up for the upcoming final on November 19. India’s much-awaited title clash will be hosted by Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
