Former Pakistan captain, Shoaib Malik has ripped apart Babar Azam following Pakistan's crashing out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 prematurely as they failed to make it out of the group stages to play the Super Eights, calling for the captain's resignation.

Malik urges Babar to relinquish captaincy

Malik, in a recent interview, lost his calm as he asked Babar to take accountability for the exit and step down from the captaincy. He also compared the situation to the time when he stepped down from captaincy back in the 2000s.

"I immediately would have resigned from the captaincy and directed all of my focus on my cricket. It happened to me once, and I was offered the role again in 2009-10, but I did not accept the offer," said the 42-year-old.

He also criticized how the team has made close to no improvement under Babar's reign as captain, faltering time and again,

“I am not just saying this, my argument is backed by Babar’s numbers as captain, but I am willing to sideline the statistics. If he shows improvement and plays well for the country and team then he should definitely continue as captain. But there is no improvement,” he concluded.

Most of the criticism around Babar and his captaincy have emerged after their shocking super over loss against the hosts, USA which sent shock-waves through Pakistan cricket fraternity with some the reality checks.
