On the back of a dominating batting performance and a disciplined day with the ball, India Women beat Sri Lanka Women by 97 runs in the Final of the ODI Tri-Series. The high-octane clash was played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Sunday, May 11.
Here, we take a look at how the Final of the Tri-Series between Sri Lanka Women and India Women panned out.
Mandhanaβs Majestic Ton Powered India to a Mountainous Total
Opting to bat first, India made a steady start as openers added 45 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. Post powerplay, Smriti Mandhana looked to accelerate, but her partner Pratika was dismissed, giving Sri Lanka the much needed breakthrough.
However, Mandhana continued from the other end, playing a brilliant knock. She went on to score a magnificent century and stitched a crucial 120-run partnership for the second wicket with Harleen Deol, firmly putting India in control.
Riding on the back of Mandhana's dominant innings, the middle order capitalized on the momentum, contributing valuable runs. Despite a few late wickets, the batters kept the scoreboard ticking and ended up posting a commanding total of 342 for 7, giving their bowlers a strong platform to defend.
High Tide of 343 Proved Too Much to Chase for the Lankans
Chasing a target of 343, Sri Lanka lost one of their openers early, thanks to Amanjot Kaur's breakthrough in the very first over. However, Chamari Athapaththu fought back well and anchored the innings with a couple of fifty-run partnerships before falling after her own half-century.
In-form Nilakshi de Silva also looked promising but couldnβt convert her start. Indian bowlers kept striking at key moments, breaking partnerships in regular intervals. Their timely wickets ensured Sri Lanka never get settled, keeping the pressure on throughout the chase.
Eventually, they lost their plot in the chase and India bowled them out for 245 with ten balls remaining. Sneh Rana emerged as the star with the ball for her four wickets in the match. Moreover, Amanjot Kaur also had a good day on the field as she finished with a figure of 3 for 54 in her 8.
