In a significant development, the England and Wales Cricket Board has updated the men's squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. Fast bowler Gus Atkinson has been rested for the series, with Olly Stone replacing him in the squad.

Since making his debut, Atkinson has been an asset for England in Test cricket. The speedster emerged as the wrecker-in-chief with the ball for the hosts, scalping 22 wickets in the West Indies home series. He produced the gem of a spell on his maiden Test appearance, rattling the Men in Maroon with a clinical ten-wicket haul.

He followed it up with another cracker of a series against Sri Lanka, scripting England's emphatic series win with his fiery spells. Given his importance for the Test team, the English cricket board has decided to manage his workload and rest him for the Australia tour.

On the other hand, Olly Stone, who recently made his Test comeback, has represented England in eight One-Day matches. He has scalped eight wickets at a strike rate of 39.8 and an economy rate of 5.98. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler, who has been ruled out of the T20I leg due to a calf muscle injury, is expected to return for the ODIs.

England's updated squad for Australia ODIs

Jos Buttler (Lancashire) - Captain, Jofra Archer (Sussex), Jacob Bethell (Warwickshire), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Brydon Carse (Durham), Jordan Cox (Essex), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Josh Hull (Leicestershire), Will Jacks (Surrey), Matthew Potts (Durham), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Phil Salt (Lancashire), Jamie Smith (Surrey), Olly Stone (Nottinghamshire), Reece Topley (Surrey), John Turner (Hampshire)

England finish Sri Lanka Tests on a losing note

In another development, England had a poor finish to the home Test series against Sri Lanka, as the visitors handed them a crushing eight-wicket defeat at Kennington Oval. Chasing a 219-run target, Sri Lanka went past the finish line in just 40.3 overs, courtesy of Pathum Nissanka's flamboyant century. However, England bagged the series by 2-1, having won the first two matches.
