'Needs To Get Better On Shorter Formats,' Sourav Ganguly's Advice For IPL Disciple Rishabh Pant

Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly thinks dynamic batter Rishabh Pant should work on his batting in the shorter formats. Hailed for his flamboyant stroke play, Rishabh Pant has been a vital cog in India's Test setup since debuting in 2018. The left-handed batter has played several iconic knocks, leading India to many memorable Test victories.

However, the Delhi-born cricketer has yet to cement his place in India's ODI and T20I teams. With Shreyas Iyer batting at four and KL Rahul playing as the wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant hasn't got a consistent run in the 50-over format.

Talking about the T20Is, Pant's inability to convert the brisk starts into impactful innings has made him pay the price, raising doubts over his place in the Indian team. Speaking at an event, Ganguly acknowledged Pant's Test batting prowess, addressing him as one of India's finest batters in the format.

However, the former captain also advised the talented cricketer to redeem himself in ODIs and T20Is.

"I consider Rishabh Pant one of India's best Test batsmen. I'm not surprised that he's back in the side, and he will continue to play for India in Tests," Ganguly said.

"He will be an all-time great in Tests if he keeps performing like this. For me, he needs to get better in the shorter formats. With the talent he has, I'm sure with time, he will become one of the best," he added.

Rishabh Pant's Test return boosts India ahead of Bangladesh series

After recovering from a major car accident, Rishabh Pant is all set to make his Test comeback in India's upcoming home series against Bangladesh. The 26-year-old recently oozed his class with the bat as well as gloves in India B's Duleep Trophy clash against India A. Considering his ability to play aggressively, Pant could emerge as India's go-to man in the Bangladesh series.
