Australia is currently touring Europe, including matches in Scotland and England. They recently clean-swept Scotland in a three-match T20I series. While the Aussies were dominant in all three games, a particular Scottish player grabbed the attention of the cricketing fraternity with his batting performances in the series—Brandon McMullen. 

In the T20I series against Australia, McMullen finished as the highest run-scorer. He scored 134 runs during the series in three matches at an average of 44.66 and a strike rate of 139.58. McMullen's show with the bat in the middle-order makes him a valuable commodity during the upcoming mega auction ahead of IPL 2025. 

Why pick McMullen?

The Scottish middle-order batter scored two half-centuries in the last two games. In both cases, McMullen came out to bat when his team was under pressure. With his ability to rotate the strike and increase the scoring rate when needed, McMullen added great dynamism to his team's progression.

The most successful franchise of the Indian Premier League will be looking for a middle-order batter during the mega-auction. Since CSK released Suresh Raina, they have struggled to find a batter who consistently scores runs in the middle order and impacts the team's scoring rate in an impactful way. 

Besides, like Raina, McMullen can also contribute with the ball when the team needs it. The Scottish middle-order batter's dynamic presence can be something the five-time champions might strive for. 

2. Mumbai Indians

Like the Chennai Super Kings, the Mumbai Indians have also won the IPL title five times. However, for the last couple of seasons, that team has struggled to put together a perfect combination on the field. Especially since the dispersion of the trio of Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Kieron Pollard, they have struggled to find an impactful and consistent batter in the middle order, barring Tilak Varma. 

If the Mumbai Indians manage to keep Tilak Varma in their squad, then Brandon McMullen's addition will add greater depth, variety, and dynamism to the team's batting. His ability to bowl a couple of overs makes him a great entity during the auction.

While being one of the most popular teams in the league, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have also been one of the most underperforming teams. They have mostly faltered in putting together a proper team for the auctions. Most of the time, we have seen that RCB has gone in for big names in the top half of their batting order, resulting in their lower order often crumbling under pressure.
