In a recent turn of events, Indian cricket has seen a major update, with veteran batter Mayank Agarwal being appointed the new captain of India A team for the remainder of the Duleep Trophy 2024. Mayank Agarwal is set to replace Shubman Gill for the upcoming second fixture, scheduled to start on September 12, 2024.
Shubman Gill, who led India A during their first-round match against India B in Bengaluru, will not be available for the second fixture. Gill has been selected for India's national squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, which will begin on September 19.
His inclusion in the national team left an opening for Mayank Agarwal to take over the captaincy duties.
Mayank Agarwal's inclusion isn't the only significant change in the India A squad. Dhruv Jurel, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, and Akash Deep will also be joining the national side, which means they will no longer participate in the domestic tournament.
To compensate for their absence, Akshay Narang, Shaik Rasheed, and Shams Mulani have been brought in as replacements. Additionally, Prasidh Krishna, who was sidelined in the first round due to a knee injury, has been cleared to join the squad for the upcoming games.
