England's white-ball captain, Jos Buttler, has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 International (T20I) series against Australia due to a recurring calf injury. This setback marks a continuation of a frustrating summer for the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter, as he struggles to recover in time for the three-match series, starting on September 11, 2024, at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton.

With Buttler sidelined, Lancashire's Phil Salt, who has led the Manchester Originals in The Hundred tournament, will take on the role of captain for the T20Is.

Buttler’s absence could also impact his availability for the crucial five-match One Day International (ODI) series against Australia, set to begin on September 19 at Trent Bridge. To cover for the potential further injury fallout, Essex batter Jordan Cox has been added to the ODI squad.

Buttler sustained a calf injury in July while preparing for The Hundred. The injury setback ruled him out of the lucrative white-ball tournament, adversely affecting Manchester Originals' campaign.

Jamie Overton Replaces Jos Buttler

In a bid to bolster the squad, Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton has been called up as a replacement for the T20I series. The absence of Buttler, who is renowned for his explosive batting and leadership, presents a challenge for England as they prepare to face a strong Australian side.

This injury disruption could force England to experiment with their lineup and strategies as they continue preparations for the upcoming Cricket World Cup.

Phil Salt (Captain), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Josh Hull, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, John Turner.
