The preparations for IPL 2025 are in full swing as all ten franchises have completed their squad for the upcoming season. However, half of the teams still have work left as they are yet to name their captains.
Before Mega-Auction, only Mumbai Indians, CSK, GT, RR, and SRH were sure of their captains. But the remainder of the teams will have new captains for the coming season. Looking at the post-auction squad, all teams are prepared with their potential captains.
Meanwhile, this article will analyse three potential new overseas captains for IPL 2025.
1. Nicholas Pooran - LSG
Since Lucknow Super Giants entered the IPL, they have played every IPL under KL Rahul's leadership. However, for IPL 2025, Rahul had differences with the owners and left the side.
While LSG have bought Rishabh Pant to their side, Nicholas Pooran is also a strong contender to lead the side.
2. Sunil Narine -KKR
KKR are only team that finished the auction without one clear favourite to be their next captain. While Ajinkya Rahane is being touted to lead the Knight Riders, there are a few other players who might be given the captain's armband.
Sunil Narine is another veteran, who has been with the franchise for 12 years. Narine has led two Knight Riders teams (Los Angeles in Major League Cricket and Abu Dhabi in ILT20) in the last two years. Narine has played 526 T20 matches, 293 of which have come for the Knight Riders.
3. Faf Du Plessis - DC
Delhi Capitals roped in KL Rahul, who is the favourite to lead the Capitals in IPL 2025. However, they also bought Faf du Plessis, who led RCB in the last three seasons.
Thus, in case, DC decides to go ahead with Rahul only as a batter then Faf can be the new captain. So far, Pat Cummins is the only overseas captain in IPL.
