Chennai Super Kings are the most consistent teams in the history of the Indian Premier League. They have played 10 IPL finals and have won the trophy five times. One of the biggest strengths for CSK has been the way they have approached their auctions till now.
They maintained their strategy of retaining their core and thus recruited their players accordingly. As a result of their traditional strategy we have seen their overseas players who have been a part of their team previously being recruited back. In this article, we will take a look at the four probable first choice overseas players for CSK during IPL 2025.
4. Noor Ahmad
The Afghan wrist-arm spinner has been bought by CSK for a sum of INR 10 Cr. Noor Ahmad has already proven himself as an effective bowler in the middle phase of T20 cricket. He has also done brilliantly in IPL for GT picking up wicket while keeping an extra ordinary economy. These things will make him an important member of the CSK set up. Especially at Chepauk, Noor Ahmad could be match winner for the five-time IPL champions.
3. Matheesha Pathirana
The young Sri Lankan bowler has been an important part of Chennai Super Kings for the last seasons. Matheesha Pathirana emerged as a match-winner for the team especially with his abilities in the death over. Due to the contributions he made, CSK retained him for a sum of INR 13 Cr. Given the effectivity and efficiency of the Sri Lankan bowler, he is surely going to be a starter for CSK during IPL 2025.
2. Sam Curran
This young English all-rounder was one of the best deals for CSK during the IPL 2025 auction. Sam Curran was picked up only for INR 2.4 Cr by the CSK management. He can be a very effective part in the Chennai Super Kings team composition. Curran can be a power-hittter for the team in the lower order and also be an effective contributor with the ball especially in the middle phase and in the death overs.
1. Devon Conway
The Kiwi opener was a key part of CSK's IPL 2023 campaign. Devon Conway's regular and consistent performance at the top of the order was key in taking Chennai through during the tournament. Infact his absence was one of the prime reasons that CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2024. With Conway back into the squad, we can expect him to be one of the first names to be on the team sheet.
