India U19 team lost the U19 Asia Cup 2024 finals to Bangladesh U19 by a margin of 59 runs. The Bangla Tigers defended the title to clinch their second successive U19 trophy. However, Indian fans were dejected to see the men in blue go down without a fight.
In a high-stake finals of the U19 Asia Cup 2024, arch Asian rivals India U19 and Bangladesh U19 were pinned against each other. Defending champions, Bangladesh, batted first and Shihab James (40), Rizan Hossan (47) and Hasan Faysal (39) led the team to a 198 runs first innings total. While the chase looked easy, India's batters made a mess under pressure.
Fans hurt after India lose U19 Asia Cup finals
Openers Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi departed on single-digit scores. Andre Siddhart, Karthikeya, Amaan, and Harik Raj scored 20-odd runs but failed to convert them into big scores. Team India was reduced to 81/6 and eventually got bowled out for 139, leading to a 59-run heartbreaking loss.
For the second time in a row, Bangladesh clinched the U19 Asia Cup, and the scenes were jubilant in the middle. Earlier, Bangladesh had upset India in the finals of the U19 World Cup in 2020. Needless to say, the fans were disappointed and poured out their true feelings on the internet.
Many labelled it a day to forget as India had already faced defeat against Australia in the second Test at Adelaide before India Women lost to Australia in the first ODI. Moreover, a large part of the audience also questioned India’s shambolic performance, especially the collapse in the chase.
Regardless, India U19 players have a lot to learn from here. Players like Mohamed Amaan, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Hardik Raj, Ayush Mhatre and many more impressed throughout the event. Hence, the BCCI will keep a close eye on their progress as these kids are the future prospects of the Indian cricket team.
