The franchise owners in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are sweating hard as they fear a lack of quality overseas cricketers in the upcoming edition of Pakistan's premier T20 franchise league. Notably, due to the Champions Trophy 2025, the PSL is likely to overlap with the IPL in April next year and the foreign stars have prioritised the IPL.
PSL Owners Eye IPL's Unsold Overseas Talent
In the latest events, the PSL team owners have written to the PCB, asking the board to get in touch with overseas players who went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction. In the same direction, they also sent the complete list of unsold players to the PCB to make sure that they are registered for the upcoming PSL draft.
The teams are eyeing players like David Warner, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson to be a part of PSL 9, as all these star batters found no bidders in IPL.
“The team owners want the PCB to talk to the agents and boards of these players and confirm their availability for the PSL 2025," an insider said.
PCB Also Eyeing A BCCI-like Move
Further, the PCB is also looking to hold a PSL draft in either London or Dubai to improve the league's brand value. The insider added:
“The franchise owners are in favour of having the players draft either in London or Dubai as they feel it would improve the brand image of the league. The IPL mega auction was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last month. It was covered on some international sports channels."
The dates for the Champions Trophy are yet to be out, but the tournament will be held around PSL's usual window, which would result in PSL getting pushed to IPL's window.
