ABF vs SLK: Team Previews

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons have found themselves in troubled waters this season, losing the toss in all three of their matches so far, which has led to them being put to bat first each time.

This unfortunate streak has become a thorn in their side, significantly impacting their chances of securing a victory. Hence, they must return to the drawing board, focusing on ironing out their batting issues to turn the tide in their favour.

One of the glaring concerns for the Falcons is the lack of consistent performers in their lineup. Fakhar Zaman, a key figure in the top order, has struggled to find a reliable opening partner. After Teddy Bishop's struggles, Kofi James was promoted to open alongside Zaman, but the change did little to steady the ship. The team is still in desperate need of a solid and dependable opening combination.

In a bid to shake things up, Sam Billings was promoted to number three in the last match, moving up from number four. Despite the tactical switch, the move failed to bear fruit. Meanwhile, Jewel Andrew narrowly missed out on his second fifty of the season, falling just two runs short at number four.

On the bowling front, Mohammad Amir's expensive spell left the Falcons on the back foot while defending a low total. Although Imad Wasim and Hayden Walsh managed to keep the runs in check, their inability to take wickets left the team in dire straits. Their batters and bowlers will need to come together and put in a collective performance if they are to win their first clash of CPL 2024.

Saint Lucia Kings

Saint Lucia Kings started with a bang by securing their first win, beating St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by five wickets. They chased down 201/3 in just 17.2 overs.

Tim Seifert delivered a masterclass in the Kings' last game. His blistering 27-ball 64 at number six turned the tables for the Kings, who were reeling at 24 for four.

Alongside him, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, known for his aggressive batting style, remained unbeaten with a quickfire 68 off 35 balls at number four, while David Wiese chipped in with a crucial knock at number seven.

Saint Lucia Kings' skipper Faf du Plessis will be pleased as punch with this performance, sending a clear message that his side has a deep batting lineup capable of bouncing back even if the top order falters.

With the likes of Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis leading the charge at the top, followed by Roston Chase at number five, the Kings' batting lineup is one to be reckoned with. However, they will face a stern test on the bowling-friendly surface in Antigua, where runs are hard to come by.

The Kings' bowling unit, too, has its work cut out. Most of the bowlers were left wicketless in their previous outing and will be eager to rediscover their mojo. David Wiese and Alzarri Joseph will spearhead the pace attack, while Roston Chase and Noor Ahmad will hold the fort in the spin department.

ABF vs SLK: North South Pitch Report

With the average first innings score this season hovering around 158 runs, the wicket at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium has tilted slightly in favour of the bowlers. Both spinners and pacers have something in the surface for them. Batters will need to get their eye in before switching gears as runs scoring is difficult on this surface. A score north of 160 could very well be a match-winning total on this tricky surface. Expect captain winning the toss to field first.
