The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots and the St. Lucia Kings gifted the most amazing of clashes to the viewers in the fifth match of the CPL 2024. The match was being played at the Warner Park in St. Kitts.

Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers propelled the Patriots to a formidable total

The skipper of the St. Lucia Kings, Faf du Plessis won the toss in this game and put the Patriots to bat. Kings made a brilliant start as they picked up Andre Fletcher pretty early in the innings. However, the match started to change complexion after this as Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers gradually settled down and turned the heat on.

The duo tore apart the Kings bowling as they stitched a 199-run partnership with Lewis scoring an unbeaten Hundred and Mayers scoring 92 runs. The destructive batting by the duo ensured that the St. Kitts and Nevis posted a massive total of 201/3 in their 20 overs.

The chase started in the worst way possible for the Kings. They lost a bunch of wickets early in the innings and were struggling at 24/4 by the fourth over. It was at this stage that Tim Seifert and Bhanuka Rajapaksa came together. They progressed steadily at first and built the foundation to go close to the target.

Tim Seifert started the turn around of the Kings in the game

It was the ninth over of the innings by Ashmead Nedd, that tilted the game in favour of the Kings. The over started with Rajapaksa hitting a massive six. After this Rajapaksa took a single and handed over the strike to Seifert, who took full toll on the bowler and turned the game on its head.

Tim Seifert hit a six of the third ball of the over and followed it up with a boundary. He then hit two more sixes of the last two balls to round off the over with 29 runs. This over gave the Kings the momentum they needed at that stage in the chase. As a result of the assault from Seifert, the Kings were able to move way ahead of the net run rate.

The ninth over put the Kings in a position from where they dictated terms for the rest of them game. Even after the dismissal of Seifert, Rajapaksa stayed strong and blended aggression and steadiness perfectly in his innings to take the team to a rather comfortable win in the end. Rajapaksa scored 68 off 27 balls and remained unbeaten as the Kings went past their target with five wickets in hand and 16 balls remaining in the game.
