Young cricketers often look up to seasoned players for guidance and inspiration, and the bond between a mentor and a protégé can usually shape a promising career. Ayush Badoni, the rising star of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is one such cricketer who has greatly benefited from such a relationship.

Under the captaincy of KL Rahul, Badoni has blossomed into a formidable player in the IPL and beyond. The budding cricketer has always looked up to KL Rahul as more than just a captain. He sees him as an elder brother and mentor who has significantly shaped his burgeoning cricket career.

Ayush Badoni reflects on KL Rahul’s influence

In a recent exclusive interview with Sports Tak, Ayush Badoni opened up about Rahul's profound impact on him, both on and off the field.

"My bond with KL Rahul is very good. He is a good captain, we talk a lot. He is like an elder brother to me. He explains a lot of things to me on the field and off the field also. I like to play in his captaincy,” Badoni shared with deep admiration.

Ayush Badoni’s historic knock in DPL 2024 shatters records

Rahul's mentorship bore fruit in the ongoing Delhi Premier League, where Badoni, leading the South Delhi Superstarz, delivered a record-breaking performance that recently left the cricketing community in awe.

Channelling the lessons and confidence instilled by Rahul, Badoni smashed 19 sixes in a single innings,  breaking the previous record held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who hit 18 sixes during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in 2017.

His explosive knock of 165 runs powered the South Delhi Superstarz to a massive total of 308 runs, setting another record for the most sixes in a T20 innings—30 in total, surpassing Nepal's 26 sixes in their clash against Mongolia.

Yet, even with such a performance under his belt, Badoni remains focused on learning and growing rather than dwelling on future prospects. When asked about his retention prospects with LSG, he stated that he is not thinking about retentions as he doesn't know the number.
