India is currently navigating a challenging path towards the WTC Finals 2025 in June, especially following a humiliating loss against Australia in Adelaide. However, the Champions Trophy in February could rekindle India’s golden memories from June 2024, when they triumphed over South Africa to lift the T20 World Cup trophy.
While the Men in Blue have faced their share of ups and downs, notably with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma experiencing lean patches during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, there is still reason to support the team. Having won the Champions Trophy twice, in 2002 and 2013, the Indian boys would be hungry to bag the third especially coming fresh off of their recent success in World Cup.
With the Champions Trophy 2025 en route, here are three reasons why the Men in Blue could secure the trophy in the next edition:
India Boasts Strong Batting Lineup
Despite their recent struggles, Kohli and Rohit remain formidable forces in ODIs. Kohli leads the charts for India with 13,906 runs, while Rohit has amassed 10,866 runs. If they fail to make a mark, India is well-equipped with young talent ready to take charge.
Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Riyan Parag can dominate the top order. Meanwhile, Rinku Singh, along with all-rounders like Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, can reinforce the middle order.
2) Formidable Bowling Strength
Even after India's golden days of having bowling legends like Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble, the nation still boasts speedsters like Jasprit Bumrah. The speedster stands out as one of the top bowlers in the ICC rankings across formats. Alongside him, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Ravichandran Ashwin will be key veterans who can turn the tables in Champions Trophy.
Emerging talents like Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh, along with Kuldeep Yadav and all-rounders like Axar Patel in the mix, India can create a strong bowling attack to dismantle opposition's batting lineup.
1) In-Form Players
Nitish Kumar Reddy earned his maiden Test cap in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and has already demonstrated his potential with both bat and ball, delivering consistent performances in Perth and Adelaide. If given the opportunity, Reddy can be a game-changer for the team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been in the spotlight due to his remarkable form in Perth, where he scored a crucial 161 off 297 balls in India’s second innings, significantly contributing to the team's victory.
Jasprit Bumrah, the ever-reliable, delivered one of his best performances with figures of 8 for 72 in Perth. Bumrah will aim to maintain this form overseas, and disrupt opposing teams with his bowling.
In addition to these players, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Harshit Rana, and Mohammed Siraj are also in good form among other players, and will be eager to continue their success to help India bag the Champions Trophy 2025.
