The long-standing Champions Trophy schedule announcement has been delayed further after some logistical issues have cropped up. This news comes after the previous update that the hybrid model is accepted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), set with certain conditions pertaining to travelling to India for future ICC events and additional revenue for the current tournament.
India previously refused to travel to Pakistan for the 8-team event, which caused significant delays in deciding the schedule of the Champions Trophy 2025. After meetings and discussions back and forth between the ICC, BCCI, and PCB, Dubai has been suggested as the potential venue for India games, which might also include the semifinals and finals if India qualifies.
The PCB is quite adamant about their demands and believes their future matches should be held at a neutral venue whenever India hosts an ICC event.
The delay now is due to specific demands set aside by the broadcaster, who must be consulted before making finalized arrangements. It is still not clear if the BCCI has approved the PCB's demand, as both seem reluctant to agree.
Although, no formal agreement has been reached, the developments are that the discussions are going ahead in a positive manner between the three bodies.
ICC In Hot Waters For Delaying Schedule
Another report claims that the ICC might be in trouble for not announcing the schedule on time, considering a lot of money is at stake with all the major parties involved. According to the agreement, the ICC is bound to announce the schedule of an ICC event at least 90 days before the beginning period. However, in this case, there are less than 90 days remaining, for which the global body could face serious repercussions.
The Champions Trophy 2025 is set to be played from February 19 to March 9, but it is still unclear where it will take place.
