Jasprit Bumrah has been the leader of the Indian bowling for the past two or three years. His brilliance has been exihibited across formats. 6th December marks the birthday of this genius with the ball. As Bumrah gears up to face Australia in the second Test of the five match series at Adelaide, we take a look at the three best bowling spells by Jasprit Bumrah in overseas Tests.
3. 5/85 vs England in Nottingham, 2018
India were facing England in the third Test of the series at Nottingham. India batted first in the game and posted 329 runs on the board. In reply, England were bundled out for 161, courtesy of a brilliant spell by the all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
India already had a huge lead on the board in the first innings. They further strengthened their position in the game scoring 352 runs in the second innings and asking England to chase down 521 runs in the fourth innings of the game. England looked threatening in the last innings, with Jos Buttler scoring a brilliant Hundred. However, Bumrah's spell of 5/85 from 29 overs did not let England get near the target as India registered a massive win by 203 runs.
2. 5/54 vs South Africa in Cape Town, 2018
In the 3rd Test of the series Jasprit Bumrah delivered a game changing spell. After India were bundled out for just 187 in the first innings, Hashim Amla was guiding the home team towards a massive lead. However, Bumrah changed the momentum with a brilliant spell, where he picked up five wickets for 54 runs in just 18.5 overs. His spell ensured that South Africa got only a seven runs lead in the first innings.
India went to score 241 runs in the second innings and presented a target of 241 to the Proteas in the second innings. Ultimately, India managed to win the match by a margin of 63 runs.
1. 5/30 vs Australia in Perth, 2024
Jasprit Bumrah probably bowled the best spell of his life during the first Test of the BGT 2024-25 at the Optus Stadium in Perth. India batted first in this match and were bundled out for just 150. The team was under pressure and needed something special from it's best bowler and he delivered.
Bumrah bowled a lethal spell where he picked up 5 for 30 in his 18 overs and played a key role in bundling out Australia for 104 runs.
