As everyone is waiting for ICC’s final decision on the Champions Trophy 2025, a significant controversy surrounding Pakistan's hosting rights has emerged. According to reports, PCB demand for a written commitment from the ICC regarding the continued use of the hybrid model for future international tournaments as well.

It is important to mention that, the hybrid model, was first tested during the 2023 Asia Cup. Under this model, India, following to its government’s policy, played its Asia Cup matches in Colombo, while the rest of the tournament unfolded in Pakistan. 

For the upcoming tournament, the PCB has proposed a similar arrangement. In this model, India’s matches, including any potential semifinal and final appearances, would be played in Dubai, while Pakistan would host the rest of the tournament. 

PCB Wants Written Assurance From ICC On Hybrid Model 

In the latest development, PCB’s insistence on securing a written commitment from the ICC for the continued use of the hybrid model in future events. The PCB's demand is rooted in its concerns that the model could become a one-off solution for the Champions Trophy 2025 and might not be applied to future tournaments, particularly when India takes the reins for major ICC events in the coming years, including the 2027 ODI World Cup. 

The PCB's request for written assurances is not only about securing its position in the upcoming Champions Trophy, but also ensuring that future ICC events, adhere to a similar compromise if required. 

Sources indicate that Dubai has already emerged as a favored venue for India’s matches. The Emirates Cricket Board has positioned itself as a likely host for India’s games in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

As the ICC nears its final decision on the Champions Trophy 2025, all eyes will be on the PCB’s ongoing negotiations with BCCI and the final decision regarding the mega event.
