Mohammed Siraj has been in the news for all the wrong reasons as of late, but make no mistake about it, he is a terrific cricketer and is one of the best in the business, at-least in the Test format.

Despite all the success he has achieved in the Test setup, it was in the T20 format where Siraj grabbed the eyebrows. He was picked up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2017 IPL season and post that, he played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The right-arm seamer carved a name for himself and is now an established cricketer.

The same goes for Aussie captain, Pat Cummins. Once known as an injury-prone player, Cummins rose to prominence in 2017 and since then has been the best Test bowler by a country mile. In this piece, we will look at their bowling performances in the IPL to determine who has been more successful amongst the two.

Siraj had a couple of struggling seasons in the IPL, and became a laughing stock for a while, but once he settled in, the Indian seamer showcased his class. In 93 matches, Siraj has scalped 93 wickets, and the economy is 8.65. The numbers aren't bad at all, considering that he played majority of his IPL cricket at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, known as the graveyard for the bowlers.

For the majority of his career, Cummins played at stadiums with larger boundaries (Eden Gardens), and yet his economy is slightly higher than Siraj. There is nothing to seperate the two teams in terms of Average, but Cummins has taken just a solitary 4 wicket haul, as compared to Siraj's two.

Bowling style difference

Siraj and Cummins both are opposites when it comes to bowling. Siraj, when in rhythm is one of the best in the business, but is largely inconsistent in the league.

Out of 14 league matches, Siraj will win you one or two matches, and more than the skills, he heavily relies on whether he has the rhythm or not.

On the other hand, Cummins is a street-smart cricketer who has worked heavily on his T20 bowling. In the last IPL season for SRH, he used to deliver quite a few slower bouncers and used to surprise the batters with occasional short balls as well. In terms of utilisation of skills, Cummins is well ahead of Siraj.

Siraj Vs Cummins: Clutch moments in IPL

Cummins is a designated pacer but his memorable IPL clutch moments have come up with the bat for the Kolkata Knight Riders, when he scored a 14-ball fifty Vs Mumbai Indians. Also, in the IPL, he is more renowned for his captaincy brilliance, rather than his bowling.

On the other hand, Siraj has had many clutch moments with the ball, particularly against KKR in 2020, when he picked up 8/3 and ripped through their batting lineup with utmost ease.

Conclusion

There is not much to separate the two pacers in terms of wickets and stats, but Siraj has had more clutch moments with the ball and has the same numbers as Cummins while playing at a smaller ground. Hence, just by a whisker, Siraj wins the T20 battle.
