As Bangladesh wrapped up a historic Test series victory over Pakistan at Rawalpindi, player of the series Mehidy Hasan Miraz recalled his match-defining partnership with Litton Das and how the duo overcame adversities to save the team from humiliation.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Litton Das were undoubtedly Bangladesh’s heroes in the historic six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second Test held at Rawalpindi.

After the hosts reduced the Tigers to 26/6 in the second innings, the duo fought back with a 165-run partnership that essentially revived Bangladesh in the contest.

Mehidy Hasan Recalls Critical Partnership With Litton Das!

Mehidy Hasan also grabbed a fifer in the first innings to dazzle with an all-round show. He won the player of the series award for the second time overseas, and Bangladesh’s victory was the fairytale end he had hoped for.

While reviving Bangladesh from 26/6 was an atrocious task, Mehidy Hasan revealed that he calmed himself down, recalled good memories and diffused tensions with Litton Das by cracking jokes. That helped the duo get rid of the nervousness and the rest was history. He said:

"I try to be calm. I try not to be too excited. I try to remember good memories from the past. Whoever I bat with, I try to diffuse the tension. I will joke with the batter at the other end. When I joined Litton at 26 for 6, I was joking with him."

"This is how we got rid of the nervousness. When the momentum came back, we started to discuss how to turn things around. We wanted to take the team to a good position."

Mehidy also added that once the momentum shifted back in Bangladesh’s favour, he and Litton discussed how they could take things deep to put the team in a winning position.

Mehidy Sheds The Tag Of Home Bullies

Meanwhile, with the newly found success in away conditions, Mehidy Hasan Miraz can finally say that Bangladeshi bowlers are not home bullies.

"Now you can say that we take wickets abroad too. To be honest, you cannot make a Test player in one or two days. You have to give him time. It takes time for him to settle into a role and dominate in world cricket."

He opined that good Test players are not made in a day or so. They have to be developed over time and need support to settle in the said role.

"Maybe my home performances gave me a certain kind of mindset, but now that I am bowling well abroad. Confidence comes from records and references. I have both now. I will be more confident next time."

For Mehidy, confidence comes from reference and records. After home records, he now has reference in bowling in away conditions which will in turn boost his confidence for future overseas series.
