Antigua and Barbuda Falcons (ABF) are set to lock horns with the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in Match 8 of the Caribbean Premier League 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, on Friday, September 6. The Falcons, new entrants to this year’s CPL, find themselves in troubled waters as they hunt for their maiden victory after a dismal start to the tournament whereas the Knight Riders will look to ride on the winning momentum.

ABF vs TKR: Team Previews

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons

Currently languishing at the bottom of the points table, the Falcons have lost all four of their matches and are desperate to stop the rot. Their most recent loss came against the Saint Lucia Kings, where they slumped to a seven-wicket defeat.

Despite getting off to a promising start with openers Justin Greaves (36 off 26) and Fakhar Zaman (21 off 17), the rest of the batting lineup faltered, managing just 142/7 in their 20 overs.

Key middle-order players like Kofi Hames, Jewel Andrew, Sam Billings, and Fabian Allen failed to make any significant impact, a worrying trend they will need to reverse if they are to turn their campaign around.

In the bowling department, star pacer Mohammad Amir has been far from his best, leaking 45 runs in his four wicketless overs against Saint Lucia.

However, there were some silver linings, as Imad Wasim and captain Chris Green bowled economically, giving away just 21 and 24 runs in their four-over spells, respectively, while taking one wicket each. The Falcons will need a collective effort with both bat and ball to finally get their first points on the board.

Trinbago Knight Riders

On the other hand, Trinbago Knight Riders, who have played just one match so far, are riding high after a comprehensive 44-run victory over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Their top order was firing on all cylinders, with Nicholas Pooran playing a blinder, smashing 97 off 43 balls. He was ably supported by Keacy Carty, who hammered 73 off 35 deliveries, as TKR posted a mammoth 250/4 in their 20 overs.

Sunil Narine chipped in with a quickfire 38 off 19 at the top, while Jason Roy will be eager to make amends for his early dismissal for just 6.

TKR's bowling unit is no slouch either, featuring the likes of Joshua Little, Terrance Hinds, Narine, and veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

Little and Narine picked up two wickets each in their last outing, and much will depend on them to keep the Falcons' batters under the pump as they aim to make it two in two.

ABF vs TKR: Sir Vivian Richards Stadium Pitch Report

The pitch at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium are expected to offer something for both batters and bowlers. The pitch is likely to be slightly tacky early on, favouring bowlers with variations, but it should settle down as the match progresses, making run-scoring easier. Spin is also expected to play a role, with bowlers relying on turn to keep the batsmen guessing. Historically, chasing teams have had the upper hand on this surface in CPL 2024 with four wins in four games, so the captain winning the toss is likely look to bowl first.
