Bangladesh walloped hosts Pakistan in the second Test at the Rawalpindi Stadium to secure a remarkable 2-0 series win. Chasing 185 runs in the decisive innings of the match, each of their top six batters stood up to the occasion and shaped notable contributions at the crease.

Dashing wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his fighting 138, while all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged the ‘Player of the Series’ award for scoring 155 runs and harvesting 10 wickets across both Tests.

Remarkably, Bangladesh’s resolute win over Pakistan also significantly enhanced their chances for qualifying in the final of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC). Here at OneCricket, we take a look at certain scenarios that can help Najmul Hossain Shanto’s troops to seal a top two spot for next year’s title clash.

How can Bangladesh qualify for WTC 2025 final?

After the 2-0 series win over Pakistan, the Bangladesh cricket team jumped to number four position on the 2023-25 WTC standings and is currently in with a realistic chance of qualifying in next year’s final.

In a bid to secure a top two finish at the end of the championship cycle, Najmul Hossain Shanto and co. need to come up with similar performances in their upcoming Test ventures against India, West Indies and South Africa respectively.

As of now, Team India and Australia are placed at the top of the WTC table with a PCT of 68.52 and 62.50 respectively. While it remains unclear what their final PCT will look like after this year’s blockbuster five-match series, it is imperative for Bangladesh (PCT of 45.83) to secure as many Test wins in their remaining six fixtures to topple at least one of the two BGT rivals. The WTC finals will take place in Lord's, next year in June.

Remaining Bangladesh WTC 2023-25 matches

The Bangladesh team will now travel to India for a two-match Test series between September 19 and October 1. They are also scheduled to travel to West Indies for another two Tests in November this year at Antigua and Jamaica.

Additionally, Bangladesh is designated to host South Africa for a two-match Test series at home in the ongoing WTC cycle. However, no official schedule has been finalized by either of the two cricket boards yet.
