Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja has heaped a significant praise on Rohit Sharma’s Indian team for their success in Test cricket off late. Team India trounced Bangladesh 2-0 and England 4-1 in their last two series at home. Moreover, Rohit Sharma and co. also drew a series in South Africa earlier this year.

Commending India’s Test form, both at home and in overseas conditions, Raja also praised all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for consistently coming up clutch for their team in tense situations.

Ramiz Raja berates Pakistan using India’s example

Taking to his YouTube channel after India’s emphatic 2-0 series win over Bangladesh, former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja stated that the Rohit Sharma-led team is currently the toughest team to beat at home. He also lauded Sharma’s leadership in overseas victories and claimed that this Indian team has established its dominance on all conditions. He said:

“There is no doubt that at this time the toughest team to beat at home is India. But what’s making it even better for India in Test cricket under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma is the overseas victories. Not only are they competitive overseas but also win matches, because of which India have established their dominance.”

Ramiz Raja also praised the significance of Indian all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, stating that the two cricketers often tend to come up clutch for their team at critical moments. He added:

“Ravichandran Ashwin has not been celebrated as much as he should be as an allrounder. If you look at his record, he is not less than anyone…He is a no-nonsense cricketer, takes everything in his stride. Even when he is the 12th man or is out of the team, there are no tantrums. He understands the team’s situation and his responsibility. Whenever he gets a chance, he plays brilliantly….There’s a lot to learn from Ashwin. Similarly Jadeja, who performs for his team at critical moments.”

Further citing the examples of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, Raja berated modern-day Pakistan players for their inconsistent run at the moment. The 62-year-old said:

“We have seen how these two, (Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja) have grown in the game. In Pakistan, the performance of players plateaus and then slides down. There are a lot of examples of that in our country...but India's great success story is that their players go on a learning curve and then continue to ascend for a long time.”

While Team India defeated Bangladesh 2-0 by enforcing the result in a rain-hit Kanpur Test with speedy action, the Pakistan cricket team lost their two-match series at home against the same opponents last month.

As of now, Rohit Sharma and the rest of his Indian colleagues are bracing themselves to host New Zealand before taking flight for Australia later this year.
